An older gent and lady chatting on the street

Hosted by the Mental Health Foundation, this year’s MHAW has the theme of nature, and its benefits for our mental health and wellbeing. Thrive LDN is supporting MHAW with a series of activities to explore the benefits and barriers of accessing nature, and how we can all enjoy the natural world and experience the mental health benefits.

  • All activity can be viewed on their website and will be updated throughout the week.
  • Browse through the  MHAW toolkit here, which includes suggested content for digital channels.

Thrive LDN MHAW panel discussion

On Thursday 13 May at 3.00 pm, Thrive LDN is hosting an online discussion on nature and mental health.

  • The panel will be broadcast to Thrive LDN’s YouTube channel. You can register to receive the broadcast link directly to your inbox by signing up here.
  • In this one-hour panel session, participants discuss the benefits that Londoners have gained from using London’s green spaces during the pandemic; some of the known benefits of accessing nature to our mental health and wellbeing; what are the barriers to accessing nature, and what can we do about them.
  • Tools to help promote the panel can be found in our MHAW toolkit.

Thrive LDN mental health conversation starter resource

In addition to the above MHAW plans, there will be the launch of a new conversation starter tool to support faith and community leaders to engage in mental health communications with their members. Developed through engagement with community leaders across London by psychologist and public health specialist, Dr Pamela Nkyi, SIGNSS aims to normalise conversations about mental health.

SIGNSS leads the user through a process of starting, maintaining and closing a conversation about mental health:

  1. Situation: Using a situation to find common ground.
  2. Initiate: Initiating a caring conversation, asking direct questions.
  3.   Guide: Being a good listener, without judgement.
  4. Nudge: Prompting with positive encouragement and practical suggestions.

S&S.  Support and Signpost: Sharing help and resources
